first, A look back with me…….
Undoubtedly, planning a wedding in the last year has been tough for our couples. There have been tears, disappointment and yet an enormous amount of determination. We saw couples pull forward wedding dates at 48 hours notice. Obviously, with greatly reduced numbers and not how they originally planned. New restrictions were imminent and they knew they didn’t want to wait any longer.
2020 wasn’t an easy year for anyone. Now, as we journey through the second month of 2021 it feels almost like time is standing still. Despite this the light at the end of the tunnel is so much closer. We have the vaccine. I am so excited to get back to weddings this year and I believe we will soon.
The first wedding back….
I decided to chat to my lovely bride Rachel about her experience of the planning process and how everything turned out for her. It should be noted, all my weddings are special. However, 5 August 2020 is a date I won’t forget. I won’t forget how it made me feel. Our first hotel wedding since March 2020. A time where we are usually at our busiest became a diary full of scribbled out dates. When Rachel told me it was all systems go for her wedding, I was beyond excited!
The day arrived and I loaded up the van. I couldn’t believe it, back doing what I loved. I pumped up the music (80s every time!) and off I headed. Rachel added cookie favours so once I set up the cake, I left a cookie at each place. I was there ages, chatting to staff at the venue and just taking in all the details of the day. Rachel had thought of everything as you will see in the pictures. The drive home that day was emotional. Of course the music was on, I was so happy the tears just came and came! When I arrived back John couldn’t understand what was wrong with me! They were good tears and I can’t wait until my next, ‘first wedding back after lockdown’!!
Rachel & Jonathan – 5 August 2020
Meet the Team
Rachel tells their story……..
“Jonny and I got engaged on 23rd April 2019 and knew straight away we wanted to get married in Summer 2020. With excitement, the wedding planning began and got off to a very ‘normal’ start. We booked our church, lovely venue and confirmed bookings with all our suppliers. We loved meeting with our suppliers for the first time, chatting over ideas, helping us to envision what our wedding day would be. Not forgetting the many dress shop experiences with my Mum and bridesmaids, which I just loved from start to finish! I look back at this planning time with such special memories. It’s important to stop and just take it all in, because it all passes so quickly.”
Not the usual kind of wedding planning stress
“As people always say, planning a wedding can be stressful enough at times. However, adding a global pandemic into the mix, was something we weren’t expecting…
With our wedding only 5 months away, we knew our plans could be affected. It was all so unknown. Although we always reminded ourselves that there was a much bigger picture in all of this and remembered what was important.
With restrictions constantly changing, it was a rollercoaster journey! After believing that we had to postpone our wedding day until March 2021, there was a change in government restrictions 4 weeks before our original date. We were delighted to be able to have our wedding on our original date, 5th August 2020. This quick turn around could not have happened without the support of our closest family, friends and amazing wedding suppliers. Each supplier was so accommodating throughout the process. Using their attention to detail and creative skills, they all did their absolute best to make our wedding plans come together in such a short space of time!”
The big day
“The 5th August arrived and it still felt like a dream. The previous 4 weeks had been so busy (and a little stressful!), but the day arrived and it was all so worth it!
As I got ready at home that morning, I remember just taking a wee moment to capture the moment… my Dad was making coffee for everyone. My Mum was sorting out the finer details. Whilst my lovely bridesmaids were getting ready. I felt so thankful that morning as I prepared to marry my best friend, surrounded by my wonderful family and friends.
With restrictions, we had a small church ceremony with our immediate family and bridal party present. It was just so special! As we said our vows, we felt incredibly blessed that we were able to say ‘I Do’…
We were delighted that our wedding guests could join us at our wedding reception. This was held at the amazing Tullyglass House Hotel. We had the most wonderful day! Yes with restrictions in place. Obviously, some things were not what we originally planned. However, our family, friends and wonderful suppliers made it the best day ever!
We just feel so thankful to be married. When we look back at our photos and video, we are just filled with joy at the precious memories of our wedding day, 5th August, 2020.”
Huge thank you to Rachel for her help with this blog and to the dream team of suppliers who brought all Rachel’s ideas to life.
