5 Ways to Celebrate on your Original Wedding Date

When it comes to weddings in 2020, it’s been tough. The not knowing, the will it go ahead? If it does go ahead what will it be like? If it doesn’t go ahead; when will it go ahead? If you have ended up postponing, your original wedding date deserves to be marked! It’s been a huge part of your life and you will have imagined the happenings for so long now. It doesn’t have to be sad and depressing with you sitting in your pjs all day and crying at sad movies.

1. Have a virtual commitment ceremony

Speak to your Minister or Celebrant and see if they are available to do a commitment ceremony. Our very own Jean Barrett Quinn, Humanist Celebrant in NI did this for one of her couples, they were quite possibly the first couple in the UK to do this. It’s just a lovely way of marking the day, you could even get dressed up, in fact DO get dressed up! As restrictions are now easing you could even do this in your own garden. You could have a couple of family members there too and the rest on zoom.

2. Have a BBQ

The weather is definitely improving now so have a little bbq. A bbq is something you can do even if it’s just the two of you, again give everyone their zoom invite and have a huge virtual bbq.

3. Have a couples session with your photographer

Contact your wedding photographer and arrange a couples session. These are totally possible with social distancing measures in place. Go to your favourite place and get some snaps taken to keep forever. Something to look back on in years to come.

4. Cook your wedding menu

You don’t have to get all Gordon Ramsey, it doesn’t need to be your exact menu but even a take on it. Or if you don’t like the sound of that, order a take away. Whatever suits you, just sit down together and enjoy a meal together.

5. Have your favourite wedding cake flavour for dessert

Contact your cake supplier and order one of your wedding flavours as a layer cake. If ever there was a time for cake, this is it! The difficult decision might be which flavour to choose, and also agreeing with each other on this.

Whatever you decide to do to mark your original date, enjoy every minute!
