Our Galgorm Stay – Part 1

If you’ve stayed at Galgorm Resort & Spa before you will understand why we love it so much! We spend a lot of time at Galgorm in a work capacity so you might wonder why we like to spend our down time there too!  Some will say why would you want to stay so close to home?  Let me tell you once you step over that threshold you could be anywhere at all in the world! Pure indulgence and relaxation awaits!  We stayed at Galgorm for John’s birthday, we were there for one night and packed so much in that we need to do this blog in two parts!  So you will need to tune in next week for day two of our stay!

Arrival

Once we had checked in we were shown to our deluxe room by our concierge Darryl, who was so helpful.  We were booked into the Gin Night that evening and he told us he had been to a tasting with the same distillery (Listoke) and thoroughly enjoyed it!  This just made us look forward to it even more!

Mud Serail

We quickly unpacked, changed into our dressing gowns and headed to the Spa!  We were booked in for the Mud Serail treatment at 4pm.  The last time we stayed we had this ‘hands off treatment’ and loved it so much we just had to book it again!

The Mud Serail is a private treatment which doesn’t require a therapist.  It’s perfect to enjoy as a couple.  You are shown into a private room where you will use Dead Sea Salt to remove dead skin cells to prepare your skin for the mud.  Once you’ve showered off the scrub you apply the 100% natural mud all over.  You then enter the steam chamber where dry heat and steam allow the clay to draw out impurities and reveal new and glowing skin from head to toe!  We highly recommend this treatment to leave you feeling relaxed either when you arrive or before you leave.  If you book the Mud Serail as a Galgorm Resident it costs £20 per person, a complete bargain!

Gin Evening

Having bought my Mum this experience for Christmas and hearing how fabulous it was, we just had to try it!  Galgorm run these events every couple of months and they cost £45 per person. They have one of the most extensive and exclusive gin menus in the country and each event is featuring one of their favourite Gin Distilleries.  This time it was the turn of Listoke Distillery & Gin School.  Listoke is based in Co Louth and they are a husband and wife team which obviously we can relate to!

Listoke actually brought a small gin still and distilled some gin during the event, talking us through the process.  We were able to sample this at the end of the evening.

When we arrived to the Conservatory we were treated to a Rhubarb and Prosecco Cocktail, two of my favourites in one glass!  A delicious selection of canapés accompanied this.

Not only do you get to sample some lovely gins but the food is amazing.  Next we had a starter of Citrus cured salmon, apple, grapefruit and chicory.  The gin to accompany this had juniper berries and dehydrated orange, so yummy!

Our main course was lamb, I have to admit I am not a lover of lamb but it was the nicest I’ve had.  I absolutely loved the braised shoulder it was served with.  The gin to accompany this was Cardamon, Rosemary and Ginger Ale.  Ginger ale is my favourite mixer to have with gin so this was a winner for me!

Dessert was Rhubarb Bakewell Tart with vanilla bean custard – oh my!!  This was definitely made for me lol!  With this we had yet another gin cocktail!

After the gin tasting we were able to sit back and relax listening to live music from Shamie H from Starling Entertainments.

For anyone thinking of booking the next Gin Evening we say go for it!

Until next week…
