Drenagh Estate Wedding for Jill & Mark

What better time to catch up with our bride Jill than on her and Mark’s 1st wedding anniversary?  She told me all about her unexpected proposal and why Drenagh Estate was the perfect choice of wedding venue for her and Mark.

WEDDING TEAM

HOW DID YOU TWO MEET?

It started online with a swift swipe of the thumb, who knew after that swipe we would be done.  Our first date was simple with pizza and drinks, the second date was more intense, where I met all Mark’s friends.  One Scottish boy locked out who joined our date, one cousin driving past beeping his horn and finally his flat mate.  After this, Mark knew it would be hard to secure a third date.

TELL US ABOUT THE PROPOSAL

With permission from my father, ring delivered (thrown over the garden fence), Mark flew to N.Ireland with a plan in his head. I was already at the caravan waiting for Mark to arrive on the Friday evening and he had been calling to make sure there was still no rain at the Port.

When he arrived at the caravan, I was sitting in my pyjamas with no make-up and my friend Dawn was there.  I was ready for a relaxing evening.

With bad weather forecast for the full weekend, Mark knew he had to propose that night and get me to get dressed and down by the seaside.  Whilst subtly getting my friend to leave, this was not helped by me asking Dawn if she wanted to stay the night.  Luckily, Dawn was ready to go home.

Eventually, Mark got me out the door in a pair of jeans and a jumper. Although, I was far from happy and complained the whole way down to the seaside about having to go for a walk/drink when I had been all relaxed.

When I eventually gave it a rest and there was no-one else around, Mark got down on one knee and I started crying and continued to cry until Mark had to actually ask, ‘It is a YES, isn’t it?’

HOW DID YOU DECIDE ON YOUR WEDDING VENUE?

I grew up in Northern Ireland and always had a big garden with beautiful trees so the scenery at Drenagh was exactly what I wanted.  It was also close to the church we were getting married.  I wanted this church as my mother got married there.   As a history teacher I also loved the history behind Drenagh Estate.
